Newborn Workshop:: December 13, 2014 | Brasil 2014

Brasil. The land of exuberant beauty, contrasts and colors.    I love it.  It’s home. I had been away for longer than a person should be away from home, nearly 10 years.  This time I went back with my big fat camera and a ton of cute stuff to put babies in. Of course, I came back to eat see family.  Penélope and Geneviève got to see Brasil with their very own brown eyes for the first time and meet cousins who until then had only been faces on Skype.  And for kicks a tall, bearded handsome guy came along, too. 🙂

Brasil. 🙂

NEWBORN WORKSHOP

Photography is exciting because there is always something new to learn. Always.  To be able to share things I’ve learned so far with others was such a privilege.   Our second baby couldn’t make it at the last minute, but on the plus side, with only one baby every participant got to get a real feel for the flow of a newborn shoot.  Newborn photography takes patience.  And it’s always worth it. The idea was to attempt three poses: on the back, on the tummy and on the side.

E sempre vale a pena.

This was a beginners workshop, so I thought it would be fun for each participant to take turns using my giant awkward camera. Nikon D700.  The pictures below are a sampling from each participant.  I took a few of the pictures, but not all. Natural light only.

Nikon D700. As fotos debaixo refletem exemplos de todos os participantes.  Eu tirei algumas, mas nem todas. E somente usando luz natural.

While we waited for Miguel (8 days old) to get extra snuggles from mommy between shots, we took these:

Over two hours after we began, Miguel was ready to do some modeling on his own. 🙂

For this shot Miguel’s auntie held his cute legs in place until he was settled once again. I stayed ready to snap the picture.

One minute later legs were let go and pacifier was pulled out and SNAP!  We got one picture. 🙂 We did this over the next hour and a half.  At times with 2 minute intervals between shots, at times, 20min and once close to an hour.  But it was worth it!
